ANT Limited and LSI Logic Accelerate Time to Market for Web-enabled Set-top Boxes

ANT Fresco™ browser ported to LSI Logic's SC2000 family of set-top box chips; solution demonstrated at MediaCast show

London, May 21 2001

ANT Limited, a leading provider of embedded communication appliance software for consumer electronics and Internet appliances, and LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI), a leading designer and manufacturer of communications and storage semiconductors, today announced the availability of LSI Logic's software development platform (SDP) for the SC2000 digital set-top box (STB) chip featuring ANT's embedded Fresco browser. The SDP illustrates the ease and speed with which OEMs can create a web-enabled set-top box with superior functionality and performance. The Fresco browser running on the SDP will be shown at Cable and Satellite MediaCast this week in London, where both ANT Limited and LSI Logic have stands (G23 and C51, respectively).

"By combining the Fresco browser with the SC2000 chips for set-top boxes, we have created a highly efficient and robust solution for broadcasters and their OEM suppliers," said Nicholas Dunn, product marketing manager for LSI Logic's DTV business unit. "According to IDC, global shipments of Internet appliances such as netTVs are projected to grow to a total value of $15.3 billion by 2002. With a working reference platform now available, LSI Logic and ANT customers can see how the joint solution can accelerate time to market and help them tap into this potentially huge market for Internet-enabled STBs."

LSI Logic's SC2000 set-top box product line demonstrates the company's strength in system-on-a-chip methodology through the integration of the DVB transport and MPEG-2 A/V decoding, a 2-D graphic engine, a multi-standard video encoder, audio DACs and a TinyRISC® CPU into a single chip solution. Powered by a TinyRISC MIPS® CPU, the SC2000 family maximises performance, flexibility and functionality.

"LSI Logic is a recognised leader in the consumer technology market, so we view the SC2000 products as a natural fit with our advanced browser offering," said John Cherry, senior vice president sales and marketing of ANT Limited. "Both companies understand OEMs' needs and have designed their technologies accordingly. We have a winning combination that enables OEMs to develop and differentiate their products quickly and cost effectively."

ANT's unique three-layer architecture makes the Fresco browser highly customisable for product differentiation and branding. It efficiently overcomes the power, memory and processor constraints associated with non-PC devices, easing development time and accelerating time to market. The smaller footprint consisting of highly efficient code reduces BOM and lowers overall development costs.

Availability
The Fresco browser can be licensed through ANT Limited. For all other inquiries OEMs can contact their local LSI Logic office or distributor.
