The functionality offered by the ANT Galio Core Applications supports the requirements of many operators and broadcasters worldwide including HbbTV and the UK D-Book specification.

Features and Functionality

Zapper/ Channel Banner

The Zapper application provides the basic functionality required to change channels, control playback, and display information about programmes on the current channel.

• Lists available channels from all sources, such as IPTV and DVB channels in a single list

• Provides channel navigation and detailed programme information

• Supports parental control, blocking restricted material according to user settings

• Trick play banner for time-shifted and recorded programmes

Electronic Programme Guide (EPG)

The EPG application provides a detailed guide to available programmes

• Choice of EPG formats and styles, including

• Translucent

• Opaque with scaled TV window

• Grid-style

• Newspaper-style

• Display detailed information about a programme either as a popup window or as part of the EPG display

• Supports integration of catch-up TV services (requires platform support)

• Display all channels or filter by favourites

• On PVR-enabled platforms, schedule recordings and set reminders with on-screen indication in EPG

• Search for programmes with keyword search facility

Personal Video Recorder (PVR)

The PVR Application enables a user to schedule, manage and play recordings.

• Schedule recordings either directly from the EPG or manually

• Conflict manager alerts user to scheduling or resource conflicts and creates free space by deleting recordings where necessary

• View a detailed description of a recording

• Provides ability to automatically record all episodes of a series, or linked programmes

• Hard disk drive management – format and check disk for errors

• Enhanced recording management – automatic disk space management and reminder functions

• ‘Advanced seek’ control during content playback – direct jump, jump forward or back by user defined amounts

Main Menu/Settings Menu/Parental Control

The main menu provides the user with access to available services on the device. The operator can customise this list at the time of deployment or after launch, for instance to add new services such as Flickr, Twitter, YouTube or catch-up TV services.

The settings menu supports a range of device configuration options for typical TV devices, including:

• Set configurations for user interface language, restricted channels and define device start up options

• Set parental control behaviour based on a range of options

• Choose alternative user interface themes and multiple screen resolutions

• Easy Installation – quick configure and setup function

• Automatic or manual channel scanning

These options can be customised as required.

Video on Demand

The Video on Demand (VOD) Application enables the user to browse VOD catalogues, purchase, preview, or play items.

• Browse multiple VOD catalogues, from the same supplier or multiple suppliers

• Search for items with keyword search facility

• Browse list of active rentals or previous purchases

• Cancel scheduled purchases

• Supports a variety of common VOD business models including subscription VOD

• Independent of VOD catalogue server

Given the wide range of VOD servers deployed today, the VOD application may require some configuration and integration work, depending on the VOD servers being used.
